Of the 31,860 kilograms of waste collected on Trafalgar Square from 1 January to 31 May 2006, 12,060 kilograms, or approximately 37%, has been recycled.

The recycled material is made up of paper, cardboard, green waste, glass, plastic, and cans. Beginning in November of 2004, when recycling bins were placed on the Square, the recycling rate has increased from 25% in 2004, 30% in 2005 to today's figure of 37%.
