The key objective of Camden's scheme was to encourage schools to develop school travel plans. I certainly encourage the promotion of School Travel Plans across the whole of London and have set a target for Borough's to review travel to all schools by March 2008, and for School Travel Plans to be in place at all schools by 2009.

Camden's particular scheme includes the provision of parking dispensation permits to parents, the number which will decline by 20% every year. Whilst I appreciate this may have acted as an incentive to schools to engage with school travel plans, I am not convinced that this is a model that should be encouraged given the potential for facilitating car trips to schools.
