This is still a critical issue for London and I continue to believe that the preferred option (the Interceptor Tunnel), recommended to Government in 2005 by the Thames Tideway Steering Group is the right approach. Government are still considering this issue although minds are currently focused specifically on the two sewer overflows that may affect the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. There are no quick fixes for this. The full project is unlikely to be finished much before 2020 so we will have these problems for the forthcoming future due to a lack of investment in recent decades.
