Question

Have the Cities of London and Westminster submitted bids to TfL for funding to reduce speed limits on their roads to 20mph? Given the strategic importance of central London and the high concentration of pedestrians and cyclists in this area, will you encourage Westminster and the City of London to introduce 20mph speed limits to help meet your road casualty reduction targets?

No. The Cities of London and Westminster have not submitted bids to TfL for funding to introduce 20 mph zones on their roads during 2006/07.Officers from TfL's London Road Safety Unit will continue to liaise closely with both authorities. They would be pleased to consider any application to fund cost effective measures to introduce and/or enforce 20 mph zones that will help meet my casualty reduction targets.
