Peter Hendy (Commissioner, Transport for London)

Since April 2004, TfL has implemented a substantial programme of engineering improvements, cycle facilities, training and information campaigns. Taken together these improvements are making cycling safer and more practicable for Londoners, and promoting cycling benefits.

As a result, cycling on the Transport for London Road Network (TLRN) alone has increased by 72% compared with 2000. The total cost of the TfL and borough cycling programme from April 2004 until the end of March this year, was £35.2m. More detail is shown in Appendix A.
