Answer for Tag and Beacon

Answer for Tag and Beacon

Answered By:
Peter Hendy (Commissioner, Transport for London)

Beacons as such will not be used to enforce the Congestion Charging scheme.

Tags in conjunction with beacons will enable detection and payment of the scheme to operate in a different way

Tags could, for example, enable the introduction of more flexible charging structures for some users or they could open the possibility of offering chargepayers accounts that would deduct the appropriate charges automatically when they travel in the zone.

Tag and beacon could be introduced to the central London congestion charging zone after the operating contracts are re-let in 2009/10.
