Peter Hendy (Commissioner, Transport for London)

The vehicles provided on the new transit routes will operate with the latest commercially viable engine technology available at the time the buses are procured.

For both East London and Greenwich Waterfront Transits the aspiration is for these to be diesel-electric hybrid buses, which will reduce particulate emissions over and above the Euro 5 requirements for a conventional diesel bus. TfL is currently undertaking trials of the first diesel-electric hybrid double deck bus in London.
