Question

Are there any measures in place to limit the use of people playing loud music using mobile phones on buses? London Buses have issued a standard reply stating that they do not prohibit people from using mobile phones on buses. However this is a growing antisocial behaviour problem which some of my constituents find extremely unpleasant when using public transport.

TfL has run marketing campaigns in the past to encourage passengers to consider the wishes of others when travelling. If a member of the public is unresponsive and continues to disturb others it is difficult for TfL to do more.It is hard to see how TfL could introduce and effectively enforce a ban on people using mobile phones on buses given current social trends. That said, TfL has just launched a radio and poster campaign aimed at under-16s anti-social behaviour. The campaign will remind children of the need to behave responsibly whilst using the bus network, respecting other passengers; otherwise their concession will be removed.
