Question

West Croydon is heavily used by Sutton residents who use public transport when they dare to run the gauntlet of Croydon's violent West Croydon quarter. The street warden team in Croydon report that the biggest flash point on our transport system is at West Croydon bus station with conflict there having been 'horrendous' between south and north schools. Some of this conflict has now been transferred to outside the Town Hall in Katharine Street. Could more TOCU policing be directed to these flashpoints?

Both TfL and the MPS recognise that West Croydon Bus Station is a hotspot for anti-social behaviour. I have been informed that TOCU regularly undertakes high visibility deterrence activities and intelligence led operations targeting crime and disorder in and around the bus station. TOCU has recently visited local schools and spoken to the staff and students. Intelligence sources suggest that school students are largely responsible for the low-level anti-social behaviour at the station.A number of other initiatives has been implemented by TfL to improve the station. A digital CCTV system has been installed at West Croydon Bus Station that monitors and improves incident reporting processes and this information is shared between staff and the police.
