Will you consider providing investment, from the GLA or via the LDA, into the ice rink in Streatham to ensure its survival until a replacement centre is built at the site? The delays that have been caused to approval of the project have decreased the likelihood that current facilities will endure until the new rink is operational, meaning that Streatham could be left deprived of this important community recreational centre.

In December 2004 I considered a further report on the planning application submitted by Tesco for the scheme which includes the ice skating rink together with a supermarket, residential and other facilities.

This was the culmination of significant negotiations and detailed work by all parties to address my previous concerns. I concluded that sufficient progress had been made such that Lambeth council could determine application for the site as it sees fit.

A key criterion in my decision making in respect of planning proposals for this site is and has always been the continuation of ice skating in Streatham. I have been assured by Lambeth council that this continues to be the case . The amended draft section 106 agreement between Tesco's and Lambeth dated 21 December 2004, which I considered in coming to my decision, confirms the commitments to keep the existing rink open until the new one is operational as well as a restriction on the development of the new supermarket until after the new leisure facility has been opened.

Therefore under these circumstances it is not necessary to consider investment either by the GLA or LDA in the ice rink.
