China is the world's fastest growing economy, with an average growth rate of 9% sustained over the past 25 years. A comparable tempo of growth is likely to continue for the foreseeable future. London's attraction as the leading world financial centre and Europe's business centre provides it with an opportunity to engage Chinese businesses wishing to establish headquarters that will assist access to European markets. Working in partnership with the LDA and Think London, the offices will aim to become a focal point for London's engagement with mainland Chinese businesses. The offices will assist companies wishing to establish a presence in London, and facilitate the wider strengthening of economic relations between London and China. The offices will also cover the wider remit of promoting London as a tourist destination, support greater cultural exchange, and encourage more Chinese students to study in London universities. The offices achievements will be measured by how much London strengthens its economic, political, and cultural links with China over the next generation, and the success of increasing business between London and China.
