Question

I have not yet received a response to my letter dated 10 September 2003 regarding the hit and run offence committed by the 272 bus. When am I likely to receive a response? What has been done to discipline the driver who drove off from the scene of the accident? What is being done more generally about the poor and sometimes dangerous driving on London bus routes?

.

You should have now received a response to your letter. London Buses Customer Services have investigated the incident with London United, who operate the 272, which took some time to complete. The driver of the bus stated during interview that he was not aware that he had struck a parked car. London United accepted liability for the incident and settled the claim brought by the owner of the car. As far as London Buses and London United are aware, the owner has not made a complaint about the driver and was entirely satisfied with the manner in which the claim was handled. The driver has also undergone additional training from the operator. As you will know, London Buses have introduced a BTEC qualification, specifically designed for bus driving in London. All new bus drivers and conductors are expected to take and pass the qualification. It includes enhanced driving skills as a key module. .
