Question

I think Sir John's last point reassures me as regards the issue. I accept it in the spirit in which it is given. I hope that those responsible for distorting his words will reflect upon the damage that they have done to the Met's reputation. That is not a criticism of Sir John.

Sir, I am thankful for that because I was going to take up what you had said earlier. I am not going to now. I accept that. I was going to take it up in a major way, I have to tell you. I have been in this job for 42 years. I have been a Chief Constable, I have inspected forces, and I will not have my position rubbished by anybody. I accept that. We have been good friends up until now and we will continue to be so.
