An extension of the District Line from Richmond would require major infrastructure works in order to avoid conflicting train movements on a busy route, as well as requiring expenditure on new trains to maintain the current level of service. As you will appreciate, any such expenditure would need to be compared with the benefits that could be achieved elsewhere on the public transport network as the Mayor and TfL are duty bound to spend its limited resources in the most cost effective way possible. However, the `Corridor 6" option of Crossrail 1 if chosen, will link to Richmond and Kingston and then onto Norbiton, providing increased capacity in this area. .
