Answered By:
The Mayor

By the end of November I have to make a response to the Government's airport consultation (known as SERAS). It is recognised that further capacity in the South East is required, but this must be achieved in a sustainable and balanced way.My response will consolidate work undertaken by the GLA, TfL and LDA and will consider the social, economic, environmental and transport impacts of the proposals. If the evidence indicates that it would be inappropriate to provide additional runway capacity at Heathrow then any airport expansion should be at Gatwick and Stansted, where it has the least impact on the least number of people .
