Question

I had to pinch myself as you answered that question, because it's the same Mayor who asked for another £125m from London's taxpayers, on top of the extra £300m you're getting for transport from the government this year. That does seem to be somewhat at odds with what you were arguing for less than two months ago, but then you are a very flexible fellow.

Back to the question of the board at TfL. You're in charge of the board at TfL. Do you think it has the strength, the capacity, the independence and forcefulness to drive through its programme and to make sure it balances its budget and delivers the improvements it's proposing?

I think the team of officers responsible for the day-to-day management of the TfL budget and expenditure are the most confident public officials, as a group, I've ever encountered.
