Can the Mayor explain why the TfL proposals for Vauxhall Cross exclude cyclists and buses sharing the short stretch of road 'South Lambeth Place'? Does the Mayor realistically believe that cyclists who prefer to cycle on main roads rather than backstreet cycle routes, will stop using this cut through, rather than the dangerous gyratory system, because TfL has erected 'bus only' signs at the south entrance?

Cyclists have been excluded from South Lambeth Place for their safety. The bus station development on Bondway allows for a 40% increase in bus services and will concentrate bus flows in this area. South Lambeth Place will accommodate most of these buses including the new 18 metre articulated buses. Given the anticipated bus volumes and manoeuvring involved, and the pedestrian concentration, it would be irresponsible of TfL to permit cyclists to use South Lambeth Place. Alternative safe routes are to be introduced for cyclists as an integral part of the scheme. .
