Would you consider supporting Crystal Palace now as an alternative venue, given your view about Picketts Lock? What about Crystal Palace and the proposals that are now coming from there?

I made the case strongly to successive Sports Ministers that there should be a fallback from Picketts Lock, and we should start thinking in terms of what could be done at Crystal Palace. Rather specious arguments are raised that athletes do not like it. I doubt whether athletes' views are ever predominant in these great decisions anyway, quite frankly. We are told that it is bad for public transport. It is a much better public transport site than Picketts Lock was ever going to be. If we were given the go-ahead to begin the upgrade on Thameslink 2000, certainly by 2007 we should be able dramatically to improve train service reliability to Crystal Palace for such an event. So, whenever I meet Ministers, I will continue to press the case that, recognising that we have a major asset at Crystal Palace, it should be developed and expanded.
