Answer for Waste Strategy

I agree with the House of Commons Environment, Transport and Regional Affairs Committee report that there has been a lack of timely and reliable data on waste, which has also hindered the development of my strategy. I also agree that we need a foundation for a more sustainable system in the longer term.

Whilst the first draft of the strategy cannot be `everything to everyone', we are looking to provide a realistic and practical `solid foundation" on which to build a vision for sustainable waste management in the future.

There is a criticism that the Government had failed to reflect the thrust of a previous report and disregarded recommendations. The Environment Committee can be assured that they will have their opportunity for input. Any comments from the Scrutiny will be welcomed and I hope to use the Assembly"s constructive criticism to improve the strategy. .
