Answer for Construction Workers

The Mayor

I am aware of these deaths, and I extend my sympathies to the families of those workers who have died in these accidents. A 50% increase in deaths of construction workers is simply unacceptable. It is the responsibility of the Health and Safety Executive to ensure that the legislation which protects the safety of workers is properly enforced. My officers have been in contact with the Health and Safety Executive and I understand that they are currently running a campaign to improve safety standards in the construction industry, which I fully support. My officers will be speaking to the Health and Safety Executive to investigate whether the GLA can contribute to this debate.
