Question

I was very pleased that you gave publicity to the MPA's budget provision for an additional 1,050 officers and that you also at People's Question Time indicated in response to questions from my constituents that you wish to see a review the pattern of policing and resource allocation formula in London.

What are your expectations as to the timing of changes to such resource allocation formula ?

The Government are currently consulting on their Green Paper on local government finance. Within that paper are proposed changes to the resource allocation formula in London. It is highly unlikely that any changes will take effect before the financial year 2003/04, and I expect negotiations to commence possibly in the spring or summer of 2002.
