We are keeping a close eye on developments towards the World Athletics Championships. Nicky Gavron is a member of the `Pickett's Lock Forum', chaired by Kate Hoey, (Graham Hitchen also attends these meetings). Also, we are currently in discussion with the DCMS, Sport England and UK Athletics regarding the formal arrangements for hosting the Games here in London.

The World Athletics Championships and the development of a stadium at Pickett's Lock were discussed at a meeting of the Mayor's Management Board on 30th October. It was agreed at that meeting that the GLA should not assist with making up the capital shortfall for the stadium, or with any revenue problems (which it seems will be addressed). However, it was also agreed that I would encourage the LDA to consider ways in which we could assist with the regeneration issues associated with the project. The LDA has since begun a process of appraisal of the project.

I am very confident that the Championships will be a great success for Pickett's Lock and for London in 2005.
