Question

Will the Mayor look into the problems that residents of Broomwood Rd. SW11 are experiencing with the G1 bus exceeding the 20mph limit, damaging parked cars, and drivers using mobile phones while driving . Residents also complain about the extended service with buses driving down Broomwood Rd. after midnight and early in the morning. The residents have now formed the Broomwood Rd. Traffic Action Group specifically to deal with the problems arising out of this bus service but are having little success with their direct complaints to London Transport Bus Services Ltd.

I agree that no bus should exceed the speed limit. Drivers are instructed to observe these requirements and to drive particularly carefully in residential roads. Recent covert observations have not identified any major problems with buses speeding or drivers using mobile phones. The frequency of route G1 has not increased, although a small number of extra journeys have been introduced recently. The buses start slightly earlier and finish later to improve connections with rail services and to assist staff travelling to and from Springfield and St George's Hospitals. Dave Wetzel is planning a public meeting to discuss the G1. London Buses has met with residents and the borough and will continue to follow up specific complaints with appropriate action.
