Mentoring Quality Framework
The Mentoring Quality Framework is a self-assessment tool for organisations that provide mentoring for young people reflect and develop their practice.
We co-designed the framework with the voluntary and community sector, in partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies and Action for Race Equality.
The Mentoring Quality Framework is for any organisation that provides mentoring for young people, regardless of size or mentoring model – whether it’s volunteer, professional, online, peer, or sports-based mentoring.
We recommend that:
- the framework is used by staff managing mentoring programmes. For best results, involve colleagues from across your organisation.
- smaller organisations should start with the core indicators.
The framework is not intended to be used by young people or mentors directly.
The Mentoring Quality Framework offers a structured way to reflect on a mentoring programme – what’s working well, and what could be improved.
London’s youth organisations have told us that it:
- helps them to focus on where they need to develop
- is a useful set of prompts for discussion and reflection
- makes them think deeply about their offer for young people and how to improve it.
Organisations that complete the framework can currently access a range of support including training, masterclasses and one-to-one support. To find out more, email [email protected].

Youth organisations told us that they needed support to go alongside the Mentoring Quality Framework. To deliver this, we commissioned experts at London Youth and LifeLine Projects.
For any organisation working on mentoring for young people in London, they provide:
- training
- workshops
- an online resource bank
- a Mentoring Community Network.
