Agenda item

London's Local Industrial Strategy

To be presented by: Debbie Jackson, Assistant Director – Regeneration and Economic Development

Minutes:

9.1  The Assistant Director – Regeneration and Economic Development presented[1] plans for London’s Local Industrial Strategy (LIS) for endorsement, outlining that the LIS would aim to raise London’s productivity. Government had made clear that the LIS would not be a pitching document for funding, but it would form the basis of all future funding requests under the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). The LIS was closely linked to the Mayor’s newly published Economic Development Strategy, hard copies of which were shared at the meeting.

9.2  The Head of Economic Development outlined the LIS’ focus on inclusive growth, which would ensure all London’s places, people and communities benefited from its growth. The LIS would be supported by a robust evidence base, where appropriate highlighting the similarities in issues faced by London and the wider UK.

9.3  The Assistant Director outlined the proposed governance approach in developing the LIS, with LEAP acting as an advisory and sounding board prior to final endorsement in June 2019. Members sought informal engagement before June 2019.

9.4  DECISIONS:

a)  That the plans set out for London's Local Industrial Strategy be endorsed, subject to Aim 1 being amended to ‘Ensuring access to good work and fair pay in all London communities’ to reflect the importance of fair pay;

b)  That LEAP Board Members be given informal opportunity to contribute to the Strategy in early 2019.
