The Committee is recommended to note the action taken by the Chairman under delegated authority, following consultation with the party Group Lead Members and Caroline Pigeon MBE AM, namely to agree the arrangements for the Committee’s site visit to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 20 September 2017.

(a)  Note the report as background to putting questions to invited guests on gun crime in London, and note the subsequent discussion.

 

(b)  To delegate authority to the Chairman, in consultation with party Group Lead Members and Caroline Pidgeon MBE AM, to agree any output from the Committee’s scrutiny investigation of gun crime in London.

6.1  The Committee received the report of the Executive Director of Secretariat, as background to putting questions to invited guests on gun crime in London.

 

6.2  The Chairman welcomed the following guests:

·  Andy French, Firearms Threat Lead, National Crime Agency;

·  Temporary Detective Chief Superintendent Kevin Southworth, Head of Trident & Area Crime Command, Specialist Crime & Operations, MPS;

·  Temporary Commander Jim Stokley, Gangs and Organised Crime, Specialist Crime and Operations, Metropolitan Police Service (MPS);

·  Mike Eveleigh, Senior Firearms Officer, British Association for Shooting and Conservation; and

·  Martin Griffiths, Consultant Vascular/Trauma Surgeon, Royal London Hospital and Major Trauma Centre Barts NHS Trust.

 

6.3  A transcript of the discussion is attached at Appendix 1.

 

6.4  During the course of the discussion, Temporary Commander Jim Stokely and Temporary Detective Chief Superintendent Kevin Southworth agreed to:

·  Provide the number of registered firearms dealers in London;

·  Notify constituency Assembly Members when Radium Operations were due to take place in their constituency; and

·  Provide up-to-date crime statistics in a clear format, breaking down each of the crimes by type and identifying whether the statistics refer to gun crime overall or lethal discharges.

(a)  To note its work programme as set out in the report;

 

(b)  That the Committee notes the summary from the Committee’s site visitto Bethnal Green Police Station on 6 September 2017, which was undertaken to support the Committee’s investigation into antisocial behaviour in London, attached at Appendix 1 to the report.

 

(c)  To note that the Committee undertook a site visit to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 20 September 2017 to inform Members about policing and security issues in and around the London Stadium; and 

 

(d)  To delegate authority to the Chairman, in consultation with party Group Lead Members and Caroline Pidgeon MBE AM, to agree the date and arrangements for a site visit to New Scotland Yard.
