What help is available for self-employed/freelance workers?
Self-employed people and freelancers will be able to apply for the Government’s Self-Employed Income Support Scheme. Those eligible will receive a grant worth 80% of their average monthly income over the last three years, up to £2,500 a month.
The Government has stipulated that at least half of their income needs to have come from self-employment and they need to have registered on the 2018-19 tax return filed in January.
The scheme is open to those who earn under £50,000 a year. The grants will be taxable, and will need to be declared on tax returns by January 2022. The scheme excludes company owners who pay themselves a dividend.
