Is wearing a face covering mandatory?

From the 24 July it is mandatory to wear a face covering on all public transport and in shops, including supermarkets, indoor shopping centres, banks, building societies and post offices.

You should also wear a face covering in other enclosed public places where you can't keep a safe distance and may come into contact with others you would not ordinarily meet.

You must also follow all the other measures in place to protect staff and the public from COVID-19.  For more details on where and when you need to wear a covering please visit the government guidance.

The Mayor is asking that all Londoners wear a non-medical cloth face covering over their nose and mouth whenever they are in enclosed public places where a safe distance from others cannot be maintained.

We know the vast majority of Londoners will understand why this additional measure is necessary to help stop the spread of this virus and will comply with this request in order to help save lives.
