The Mayor runs two mobility schemes for Londoners – Housing Moves and Seaside & Country Homes.
Housing mobility options
Housing Moves was set up by the GLA in May 2012 to give opportunities to London’s social tenants who wish to move from one part of the capital to another. It is an example of what is known as a choice based lettings scheme. Homes are advertised on the Housing Moves website each week and tenants can ‘bid’ for those that they are interested in. Priority is given to households who have more bedrooms than they need, or who are in work, or who provide care to a relative or friend. If you are interested in the scheme and live in social housing in London you can register with Housing Moves (external website). Most London boroughs contribute homes to the scheme.
The Housing Moves Policies and Procedures Guide is available to view or download below. In February 2013, an interim review of the Housing Moves scheme was undertaken on behalf of the GLA. The report is also available to view or download below.
Seaside & Country Homes
Seaside & Country Homes offers people who are aged 60 and over and live in social housing in London the opportunity to move to bungalows and flats managed by housing associations mainly across the south coast but also in eastern England and the west country.
