London Assembly response to Cory Riverside consultation
Cory has consulted on proposals to extend its Belvedere energy-from-waste incinerator with a new energy-from-waste incineration plant and some other energy generation sources in a Riverside Energy Park, adjacent to the existing Belvedere site.
The Environment Committee has written to Cory in response to the consultation on behalf of the London Assembly, opposing the proposals as they stand on the grounds that London does not require more incineration capacity than is already in existence or planned, and that it is better to reduce waste, re-use and recycle it than to incinerate it, even with energy recovery.
The response is agreed by a majority of the Committee. Dissenting views, from the Conservative and UKIP Members, are noted in the letter.
