Nitrogen dioxide (NO2)is a dangerous air pollutant which in London comes mostly from transport, buildings and construction. As one measure to reduce transport-related NO2 concentrations, the Mayor of London has set up Low Emission Bus Zones, including from Brixton to Streatham. Buses running on this route must have top-of-the-range engines and exhaust systems that meet or exceed the highest Euro VI emissions standards.

This study by King's College London assesses variations in NO2 levels at the Brixton Road air quality monitoring station following the introduction of the Brixton to Streatham Low Emission Zone.
