Rugby and golf on the agenda for Rio 2016
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has approved the introduction of rugby sevens and golf into the sports program for the 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro.
“Both golf and rugby are very popular sports with global appeal and a strong ethic,” said IOC President Jacques Rogge. “They will be great additions to the Games.”
Golf was previously played at the Games in 1900 in Paris and in 1904 in St Louis, while rugby has been featured at the Games on four previous occasions (Paris 1900, London 1908, Antwerp 1920 and Paris 1924). |
