The Prince's Trust

'Get Into Digital Media' is a Prince's Trust vocational skills course based in the Olympic Host Borough of Newham. Each year it helps 16 young people gain valuable skills, experience and opportunities within the digital media industry. The London Development Agency funds the course. The programme engages young people from vulnerable backgrounds, who are ready for work but may not have previous qualifications or a chance to get training or work in the industry.

It starts with a two-week intensive course where industry professionals teach filmmaking skills including pre-production, production and post-production work using industry standard tools and equipment. In groups of four, the students make a one-minute short film on a subject of their choice. The programme also offers advice on getting a job, as well as how to build a long-term career in the industry. It has proved a great success so far, with some 80 per cent of young participants entering into education, training and employment after the programme.

Who is it for? The project will take place in Newham, attracting young people from across the capital.

When does the project start? The project will run throughout 2009/10.
