Rape and sexual assault
What happens during a visit
The Haven offers several services - but nothing happens unless you decide it will. Haven staff are happy to explain services available to you.
You can have a forensic examination where DNA samples can be taken and any injuries recorded. This information can be stored or tested anonymously, and can help convict rapists.
If you do not want a forensic examination, you can book an appointment for follow-up care, which involves testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and pregnancy. You can also talk about your experiences to a young person's support worker or a counsellor. This is a confidential service, but if Haven staff feel your safety and well-being are in danger, they might want to contact other people who can help. However, the staff at the Haven would always discuss this with you before breaking confidentiality.
