Making a difference

If there's something you really care about, whether it's other people, or the environment, there are lots of ways for you to get involved and really make a difference. Most big charities have local branches where you can get involved.

Read on to find out how to make a difference to the world around you.

Helping your community

From volunteering to setting up your own community project - there are loads of ways you can get involved and make a difference

  • Youth Action Network enables thousands of young people across the country to become active in their own time, meet other young people, gain skills, have fun and put into reality their ideas and priorities that are of benefit to their own communities.
  • Changemakers support children and young people to set up their own community projects.
  • Youthbank provides small grants to projects run by young people that are of benefit to the community.

  • CSV - make a difference
  • British Red Cross youth if you're aged between five and 25 years old, you can get involved with the British Red Cross to help people in your area and all around the world. You can get First Aid training and find out how to fundraise to help people as far away as Africa.
  • You can get involved with St Johns Ambulance learning about first aid and how to help people who are hurt. Find out more about their Badgers group.
  • Save the Children This is your chance to help other young people in your area and around the world. Find out how you can volunteer.
  • Help the Aged Lots of old people can't get out and about very much and can get lonely. By giving a few hours a week you can really make a difference to someone's life and learn a bit more about the past - history lessons are much more interesting when you hear them first hand.   • Oxfam is one of the biggest charities fighting poverty and injustice around the world. By getting involved with Oxfam you'll have the opportunity to help people and gain great work experience that could help you get a job later in life. Find out what you can do
