The Architecture Crew on the London Plan

By law, the Mayor has to write a spatial development plan for London. It’s called the London Plan and the most recent version was published in 2004. It provides us with help in planning the development of London over the coming decades.

The Architecture Crew got thinking about the London Plan during their first session as guest editors where they met Patrick, an urban planner who works for Planning Aid for London.

Patrick talked a lot about his passion for urban planning. With his guidance the Crew became planners for the day - planning and building their very own cities out of cardboard boxes.

This got the crew thinking – how do planners in London make difficult decisions about how to fit all the important buildings we need into such a small confined space?

But, what exactly is the London Plan? Why was it written? And what does it mean for young people growing up in East London? If you don’t fancy reading the whole 420 pages, the Architecture Crew are on hand to give you a digested read! The Crew decided that they wanted to interview Patrick to find out more.

The Crew also made an animation of the London plan. Watch it here.
