Mayor launches fund to tackle child poverty in London
Boris Johnson has launched a new charity, the Mayor’s Fund, to help the 600,000 children and young people living in poverty in London.
The fund was set up by the Mayor to improve life chances for disadvantaged young people and their families, and will spend £1.5m on a range of projects in 2009.
The Mayor said: ‘Over 600,000 children live below the poverty line and London is home to some of the most deprived boroughs in the country. Like Robin Hood we want to draw riches from wealth creators to give life-changing support to the poorest Londoners.’
