Young Londoners honoured at special City Hall awards ceremony
Young people from NCH Hackney Young Carers were honoured at a special awards ceremony, held at City Hall on Tuesday 9 January.
The youngsters aged 8-14, who spend most of their time caring for a sick or disabled relative, were honoured after taking part in a special 12-week Pineapple Dance studios course that arose from the Mayor’s Big Dance programme.
Top dance teachers and choreographers donated their time and services for free to run the course for children who would not normally have the resources to take part, as part of the bigger Summer of Sport iniative.
Also present were Olympic athlete turned TV presenter Roger Black and founder of Pineapple Dance Studios Debbie Moore, who were joined by top choreographers Paulette Minott and Louie Spence, star of Trouble’s ‘Bump & Grind’.
Winners of a BBC Sports Hall competition featured in the forthcoming BBC Radio 4 ‘Roger Black’s Olympic Challenge’ series were also honoured at the event.
There were also live dance performances from the Pineapple Dance Troupe.
