Being safe

Should I tell someone?

When you're growing up, troubles can come in the shape of family, school or friends. For some, trouble can come from being hurt or used by adults or other children. There are different types of abuse:

Physical abuse happens if someone shakes, hits or kicks you. As well as being painful, the damage can show in bruises, cuts and broken bones.

Sexual abuse happens if you're forced or persuaded into sexual acts or situations by others. It might include being encouraged to look at pornography, being harassed by sexual suggestions or comments, being touched sexually or forced to have sex.

Emotional abuse happens if you're always being shouted at, criticised, blamed, sworn at and rejected by the people you look to for affection.

If any of the above are happening to you - or if you're in a weird situation and you're not sure if it's normal, then it's best to talk to someone.
