Safe surfing
Was there life before the internet? Where else can you play fantastic games, chat with your friends, get homework help
and find out about top bands and TV programmes?
Using a computer can feel private and safe - but you still need to be webwise and look after yourself when you're
surfing the net.
Get webwise!
- Let your mum/dad/teacher/guardian know what you're up to.
- Don't give out any of your personal details - your real name, your address, or your photo.
- Don't open email attachments unless you know what they are. This can stop your computer getting a nasty virus.
Alarm bells
If you're ever in a situation that goes wrong and alarm bells start ringing, then:
- stop chatting/messaging/emailing
- get out of the situation right away
- tell your parent/teacher/guardian.
Things to watch out for
Tell a parent/teacher/guardian if:
- someone you've met in a chatroom wants to meet up
- you're asked for your personal details or a photo
- you get an e-mail saying rude or nasty things
- someone you've met online wants you to keep a secret or not tell your parents.
