Young Londoners on crime and personal safety
'Technology needs to be upgraded as CCTV cameras are not very clear and not many crimes are helped by them. We need to have cameras on small roads because of bullying, racism and fights.'
Charlotte, age 10
'I think it is crucial that we have better road crossings so that kids don’t die by just crossing the road.'
No name given, age 13
'I would like to make London a better place by stopping people dropping litter and its quite annoying seeing people with their hoods up walking in groups. I have once been beaten up by a group myself.'
Jordan, age 10
'I’m living in *probably* the roughest part of London... Hackney!!!! I experience a lot of things to do with thugs and drugs and there are not many safe places to play with my friends. We still manage to do it and I just wanted to tell all other kids to still play even if they live in a ROUGH place.'
Craige, age 12
'I feel that the taxes should get lowered. There should be cameras on every street that is getting invaded by teenagers and polluted.'
Tanya, age 10
'I am not allowed to the park on my own because although the park is mostly quite safe, there is a group of 16-18 year olds who are often there, wearing hoods that are really scary. Some of the people walking around scare me. Once a gang of teenagers pushed me off my bike. I could have got hurt if a car was coming, luckily none were. I am allowed out to the park with just my best mate.'
Gabrielle, age 10
'I hate it that I have to cross the road after school clubs. there should be a lollypop man after clubs as well. I think that just because we do extra activities, we shouldn't risk our safety.'
Miz, age 9
'I think less ASBOs should be given out because now youth like me have less freedom. Just because we are kids does not mean that we have to be mischievous all the time. How would you feel if you was cut short of your freedom and not able to live life how you should be able to.'
Shereen, age 9
