Our Health and Public Services Committee has written to the Mayor’s Health Advisor, Pamela Chesters, about the importance of including mental health in the work programme of the London Health Improvement Board.
The Committee also wrote to NHS London about the need for regional oversight of mental health services from 2013 in order to share best practice and ensure consistency of approach.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) is the busiest in the country, with 1.5 million 999 calls a year and, at a time of cost cutting and staff reductions, demand is rising.
Our Health and Public Services Committee says that to cope with these challenges, the LAS should work more closely with the capital’s police, fire and transport organisations, which are led by the Mayor, to find efficiencies.
The report says the LAS could share ambulance stations with the London Fire Brigade - currently 41 percent of ambulance stations in London have a fire station within 1 km.

The Mayor has provided £50m for regeneration projects in town centres affected by the disturbances, with the Government providing £20m specifically for Tottenham and Croydon. A further £40m could be available as part of the Mayor’s ongoing Outer London Fund. This ‘capital funding’ is a one-off lump sum.
While welcoming the investment in physical regeneration, the Committee supports the Mayor’s view that long-term ‘revenue funding’ is also needed to pay for schemes that support local residents and address underlying problems like the high level of unemployment.
30 November, 2011 - 14:59
Following this meeting, the Committee wrote to the Mayor setting out several suggestions to ensure openness and transparency around the governance of the Parks.

The report, by the Economy, Culture and Sport Committee, highlights the £3m cost of rescuing the Visit London pension scheme and £2m start up costs for the new single promotion agency, London & Partners. It finds that these extra costs were not foreseen by those making the key decisions about the future of London's promotional agencies.

Our Assembly report calls on Mayor to help map out London's public toilets as current information is inconsistent and incomplete.
Public toilets are a vital service for Londoners and visitors and access to them will become particularly important with extra visitors expected in the capital for the 2012 Games.

This report highlights that managing the conflicting demands for London’s road network will require new and varied approaches in order to accommodate more people and more economic activity.
More than 10 million journeys are made by private motor vehicle in the capital each day, nearly 7,000 buses cover around 700 routes, and almost 90 per cent of London’s freight is transported by road.
As the population increases and new jobs are created, the amount of traffic is predicted to continue to grow significantly and current plans may not keep pace.
17 June, 2011 - 12:27
The Committee broadly welcomes and supports the aims of the Cultural Olympiad and our response to the Legacy Plan is intended to enhance and strengthen the strategic vision set out in it.
6 June, 2011
In its response to the Mayor’s final Air Quality Strategy, the Environment Committee welcomes the focus on public health and the fact the Mayor has taken up several of its suggestions, in areas such as reducing transport emissions and improving health information.
However, the Committee suggests the Mayor should continue to improve air quality beyond European standards for the benefit of Londoners’ health, given the estimated 4,300 extra premature deaths in the capital annually linked to harmful airborne particles.

Our annual report sets out the work of the Assembly over the year to April 2011 in a number of key areas.
The report details how we've looked at the actions of the Mayor and his advisers, and the finances and performance of City Hall and London's transport, police, fire and regeneration agencies.
We've also summarised our work on the priorities Londoners identified in the Greater London Authority's Annual London Survey:
