Managing risks and increasing resilience is the Mayor’s climate change adaptation strategy for London. It details his strategic approach to managing the climate risks we face now and in the future in order to maintain London as one of the best big cities in the world.

Delivering London’s Energy Future is the Mayor’s climate change mitigation and energy strategy. It sets out his strategic approach to limiting further climate change and securing a low carbon energy supply for London.

To limit further climate change the Mayor has set a target to reduce London’s CO2 emissions by 60 per cent of 1990 levels by 2025. Delivering London’s Energy Future details the programmes and activities that are ongoing across London to achieve this. These include:

The Mayor commissioned INNOVAS to produce the London Low Carbon Market Snapshot 2011. This Executive Summary of the Snapshot assesses global markets for low carbon and environmental goods and services (LCEGS), and the value of London’s share of this. It includes both supply chain companies as well as those which are considered specialists in the sector.

It highlights total sales and employment in the LCEGS sector in London by sub-sector, and breaks this down by location to each London borough.

This is the first joint State of the Environment report for London, produced by the Greater London Authority, Environment Agency, Natural England and Forestry Commission.

The report looks at how the environment has changed over the last decade using a series of environmental indicators, highlighting the improvements that have been made and the challenges we still face.

'Clearing London's Air' details how the Mayor aims to protect Londoners' health and increase their quality of life by cleaning up the capital's air.

The strategy sets out a framework for improving London’s air quality and measures aimed at reducing emissions from transport, homes, offices and new developments, as well as raising awareness of air quality issues.

Mayor's Draft Air Quality Strategy

Following consultation with the London Assembly and functional bodies, which ran from October-November 2009, the Mayor published a second Draft Air Quality Strategy for public consultation on 28 March 2010. The consultation ended on 13 August 2010.

The GLA Act 1999 gives the Mayor responsibility to produce a Municipal Waste Management Strategy for London. London's Wasted Resource, the first draft strategy for consultation with the London Assembly and functional bodies, was launched on 18 January 2010. A second draft will be published for public consultation in summer 2010, and the final strategy will be published in late 2010/early 2011.

This independent report by London Southbank University, commissioned by the GLA, shows that the London Plan has been successful in getting developers to go much further than basic requirements under building regulations to incorporate sustainable measures and cut carbon. The carbon savings being secured from developments has increased from an average of 29 per cent in 2006 to 34 per cent by mid 2009.
