Kit has combined a career in business with a long career in London government. A chartered accountant by training, he was first elected to Westminster City Council in 1998 where he rose to be Deputy Leader and finance chief - helping to lead the council to the top of the league tables with one of the lowest council taxes in the country, and significant reserves. He stood down from the council in 2006 and was elected to the London Assembly in May 2008, when he was also appointed as Deputy mayor for Policing by the Mayor of London.
