The GLA is leading on the City’s London Ambassador Programme which has been established by the Mayor of London to support the preparation for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The aim of the programme is to provide assistance to visitors to enhance the experience of London and the Games.
The Programme will recruit, train and deploy 8,250 volunteers (“London Ambassadors”) across London during the 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games. The London Ambassadors will be deployed at 43 key locations including train stations, airport terminals, live sites and major visitor attractions.
A total of 8,000 London Ambassadors will work 6 consecutive days during Games time. In addition, a further 250 London Ambassadors will be responsible for managing each of the 43 volunteer locations, each working for a period of 20 days during the Games. As part of their training the London Ambassadors will also be required to visit the area they will be working in.
It is proposed that the London Ambassadors will receive free travel provision for the committed days as stated above. The Mayor is requested to direct Transport for London to implement these travel arrangements, with the GLA reimbursing TfL for the cost of travel undertaken on National Rail services.
