GLA elected members' remuneration

Remuneration for the Mayor of London, the Statutory Deputy Mayor, the Chair of the London Assembly and London Assembly Members for the current financial year is as follows (a cost of living award for 2010/11 is pending):

  • The Mayor of London - £145,350 (the Mayor forewent the cost of living award for 2009/10 and so his remuneration is currently £143,911)
  • The Statutory Deputy Mayor - £96,092
  • The Chair of the London Assembly - £64,103
  • London Assembly Members  - £53,439

Independent review of the remuneration of elected members of the GLA

The Mayor and the Assembly agreed in September 2008 to jointly request the Senior Salaries Review Body (SSRB) – the independent body that advises the Government on the remuneration of Members of Parliament, the judiciary, the armed forces and senior civil servants, etc – to undertake an independent review of the remuneration of the elected members of the GLA.

The SSRB report was published in August 2009. It will be considered by the GLA in the coming months, starting with the Standards Committee on 1 October 2009.

Attendance Allowance for Independent Members of the GLA's Standards Committee

Independent Members of the GLA's Standards Committee are paid an attendance allowance of £85 per meeting. The level of attendance allowances for Independent Members is currently under review.
