The GLA commissioned an online survey to find out how arts and culture organisations and higher education institutes feel about the points-based immigration system and to gain an understanding of the impact it has had on them. The survey ran from 25 January until 28 February 2011 and 122 responses were received from a range of local and national organisations.
Attracting the brightest and best global talent to London is essential to London as a centre for global business and the cultural capital of the world. The Mayor believes the points-based system is a good system for managing migration and ensuring that London attracts the skills and talent to thrive, however, he recognises the limits of the system for the culture sector and wants to see the system and policies improved to better meet the needs of non-EU artists and academics coming to the UK.
