Volunteering offers many ways to get more involved in sport.
Sports clubs and organisations always need new volunteers with a range of experience and skills. From administration to coaching, there are many volunteer roles within sport, and remember you don’t have to be sporty to be useful!
Opportunities include:
- Administration
From sorting out club membership to checking who is available for the next game, you could organise it all by phone or email. - Finance
Managing budgets is key to the survival of many sports clubs. If you’ve got number-crunching skills you can help. - Coaching or officiating
From teaching sporting skills to refereeing games or competitions, those with experience in a sport can be in demand. - Fundraising
Perhaps you could organise sponsorship through your work, or maybe run events such as sponsored matches or car boot sales? A sports club always needs help with the pennies. - Catering
From pouring half-time drinks to making sandwiches for a team lunch, sports provides many opportunities in catering. - Maintenance
Whether it’s painting the clubhouse or making minor repairs, DIY skills are always needed. - Transport
Sports teams need wheels, perhaps you could set up a transport pool so everyone shares the load. - Cleaning
It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it.

London 2012
London Olympic and Paralympic Games are not until 2012, but there are ways to get involved as a volunteer right now. An estimated 70,000 volunteers will needed during the 2012 Games itself, in over 3,500 different roles from spectator support and transport, to first aid and translation.
