The Personal Best programme
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games offers a unique opportunity for workless and socially excluded people to benefit from volunteering. Through the programme, they can gain new skills, lift their aspirations and develop new career choices.
Personal Best aims to help this group build self esteem and self-confidence, and will lead to local volunteer opportunities, further training and permanent paid work. The programme will act as a ‘stepping stone’ to work for those that take part – long before the Games itself.
Graduates of the programmes will achieve a Level 1 nationally accredited qualification in Events Volunteering. They will also have a better opportunity to become a volunteer at the Games themselves. The approach was first developed for The XVII Commonwealth Games held in Manchester in 2002.
Personal Best will also help ensure London 2012 volunteers fully reflect the diversity of London. For more information about the programme, please visit the Personal Best Programme website.
