Mayor Boris Johnson meets young winner of Christmas card competition

A 15-year-old east London school boy has drawn the winning design for Mayor Boris Johnson’s official Christmas card. The Mayor today visited Morpeth School in Tower Hamlets to congratulate the young winner, Rahad Hussain. The colourful festive design features the Three Wise Men on their camels passing St Paul’s. The card will be sent to individuals and organisation across the capital from the Mayor.

Morpeth School is working closely with the Globetown Learning Community charity on an educational project supported by the Mayor’s Fund for London.

Mayor Boris Johnson said: ”Rahad Hussain has shown a great flair for capturing the magic of Christmas in his design. It is truly one of the nicest festive cards I’ve seen and I’m confident that it will be warmly received. Morpeth School and the Globetown Learning Community charity are doing great work with pupils and their parents. The charity is a shining example of the educational projects that the Mayor’s Fund is supporting across London.”

Head teacher Alasdair Macdonald said: “I'm very proud that one of our students has created such an outstanding Christmas card for the Mayor. The students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to take part in this competition and it will be a great honour for Rahad's design to be sent to hundreds of people across London."

At the school the Mayor met pupils and parents on the Globetown Learning Community project which helps develop language and educational skills.  Rahad is one of the many students benefiting from the range of additional support offered.

The Mayor’s Fund is supporting the project as part of its mission to improve the life chances and aspirations of disadvantaged children, young people and their families in London.
